Meet the University Park Team Behind Gatewood Fence & Gate

We’re a small crew. That’s on purpose. Hal Gatewood started this company in 2001 with a truck, a welder, and the idea that a fence and gate company should actually answer its own phone. Twenty-nine years later, the shop is still down the road, and the people who show up at your driveway are the same people who answer when you call. No faceless franchise, no rotating cast of subcontractors. Just a handful of men and women who know gates the way you know your own street, working the same neighborhoods we live in.

Our People

Hal Gatewood, Owner

Hal’s name is on the shop, on every invoice, and on the truck you’ll see in your driveway. He founded Gatewood Fence & Gate in 2001 and still runs every job like his reputation depends on it, because it does. If something was installed wrong by whoever came before, he’ll tell you plainly, show you what he found, and fix it the way he’d fix his own gate. He’s the guy who says “Show me the gate closing on its own and I’ll show you where it’s failing.” Outside work, he’s either welding something that doesn’t need welding yet or keeping an eye on the weather because Texas heat doesn’t care about your schedule.

Luis M., Lead Technician

Luis has been with Gatewood for over a decade and has seen every failure mode a gate can offer, from sheared hinge posts to operators fried by lightning strikes in Highland Park. He’s factory-certified on LiftMaster, FAAC, BFT, and DoorKing, and handles most control board diagnostics before the coffee cools. Hal trusts Luis to find what’s actually wrong, not just what’s easiest to replace. Off the clock, he’s restoring a 1972 Ford F-100 and will talk your ear off about it if you let him.

Danny R., Senior Installer

Danny runs the install side for heavier jobs, steel driveway gates, cantilever sliders, and anything that needs a real foundation poured in the right spot. He’s been welding since he was a teenager and lays a bead that looks better than most factory work. He’s certified on Viking, Ghost Controls, and Elite operator systems, and he’s the one who catches small problems in the survey that would turn into huge problems later. Danny grew up near SMU and still lives in the area, so he knows the alleys, the setbacks, and the city inspectors by name.

Sarah T., Service Coordinator

Sarah is the voice on the phone when you call at 2 a.m. because your gate is stuck open and you’ve got a dog who’s too curious for his own good. She’s been with Gatewood for seven years and knows the schedule, the parts room, and Hal’s coffee order without looking anything up. She’s not a script reader and she’s not in another state. When Sarah says she’ll get someone out, she means a real person, from this team, will be there. She’s the one who tracks follow-ups and makes sure the 90-Day Done Right Promise gets honored without you having to argue for it.

One Standard, Every Job

The crew changes shirt sizes, but the standard doesn’t. Every person who knocks on your door in University Park answers to the same name on the invoice, works under the same license number, and carries the same 90-Day Done Right Promise stamped in writing. Hal doesn’t send someone out who he wouldn’t trust at his own place. That means background-checked, uniformed, drug-tested people who show up when they say they will, quote the price before the work starts, and don’t leave until the gate does what it’s supposed to do. If it’s not done right, one call brings us back. No runaround, no ticket number, no case manager. Just Hal and the crew, down the road, making it right.
