BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair: The University Park Owner’s Guide

BFT keypad and intercom repair in University Park typically runs $190 to $420 installed, depending on whether we’re rebuilding your existing keypad or replacing it with a matched BFT-compatible unit. We stock the common BFT keypad and intercom parts on the truck, so most University Park calls are handled the same day. The way most people find out their keypad failed is pretty simple: one morning the gate won’t open, the code does nothing, or the intercom crackles like a radio in a thunderstorm, and suddenly nobody can get in or out.

We’ve been fixing BFT systems in University Park since 2001. Hal Gatewood grew up not far from Goar Park, and he’s still the one who answers your call. When a BFT keypad quits, it’s usually one of three things: water in the housing, a burned trace on the board from a lightning surge, or twenty years of Texas sun cooking the membrane until the numbers go dead. We’ll tell you which one it is before we touch a screwdriver, and the price won’t change at the door.

Which BFT Models This Applies To

This repair guide covers the BFT keypad and intercom lines you’ll actually see on University Park gates: the BFT Mitto series (Mitto 2, Mitto 4), the BFT EBP series keypads, the BFT PERSEO intercom stations, and the older BFT CAME-style wall panels that some gates in this area still run. If you have a BFT gate opener paired with a keypad or an intercom, the part will either be a stand-alone wall-mount unit or a panel built into a driveway post. Look for a small silver BFT label on the back or underside. On the EBP series, the label is on the inside of the front cover; on the PERSEO, it’s inside the wiring compartment.

One thing that trips people up: BFT keypads are not universal across the opener line. A Mitto 2 keypad won’t talk to the older BFT Deimos or the newer BFT U-Link control boards without the right receiver. We match the keypad to the control board, not just to the brand name. OEM BFT parts are good, but for the older EBP series, a quality aftermarket keypad from a company like Elite or a compatible F4T unit will often outlast the original because the newer boards have better weather sealing. We’ll tell you honestly which one makes sense for your gate. We are an independent service provider and not affiliated with BFT, but we stock and install their parts every week.

Signs Your BFT Keypad & Intercom Repair Is Failing

  • The code stops working with no warning. This usually means the keypad membrane has cracked from sun exposure or the internal circuit board has a dead section. The gate opener is fine; the keypad just isn’t sending the signal anymore.
  • Buttons work sometimes and not others. This is moisture inside the housing. University Park gets heavy morning dew and the occasional sideways rain, and once water gets under the membrane, you get intermittent contact until the board corrodes.
  • The intercom buzzes or hums constantly. This is a failing capacitor or a loose ground in the intercom station. If left alone, that buzz turns into a dead speaker, and then you’re replacing the whole unit instead of one board.
  • You hear a relay click but the gate doesn’t move. The keypad is sending the signal fine. The problem is downstream at the opener’s receiver or the cable between the panel and the board. We trace it with a meter rather than guessing.
  • The keypad lights up but won’t accept any code. This is a soaked circuit board or, on the older EBP units, a fried EEPROM chip. It’s repairable, but not by cleaning the keypad face. The board itself needs attention.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Here’s what BFT keypad and intercom repair runs in University Park, with real numbers:

  • Repair existing keypad (board, membrane, or wiring fix): $190 to $280 installed.
  • Replace with a BFT-compatible keypad (new part, wired and programmed): $320 to $420 installed.
  • Intercom station repair or replacement: $240 to $390 installed, depending on whether it’s a simple speaker swap or a full panel rebuild.

Every price is quoted and agreed before any work starts. We don’t do “estimate plus surprises.” What’s included: the part, the labor, the programming, and a 90-Day Done Right Promise in writing. If it acts up again in those 90 days, one call brings Hal back. No runaround. We also honor $40 off any repair over $200, so a full keypad replacement on many University Park gates comes in right around $380 before the discount.

DIY or Call Us?

Here’s the honest split. If your BFT keypad just stopped working after a rain, you can safely pop the front cover, dry the inside with a cloth, and check for obvious corrosion on the screw terminals. That’s the easy stuff. What we’d rather you not do is open the high-voltage side of the gate opener or start probing the control board with a multimeter, because a BFT board carries live 120V even when the gate is idle, and a wrong probe slip can fry the board or hurt you. A keypad works on low voltage, but the board it connects to doesn’t always.

Where DIY goes wrong is programming. We’ve seen plenty of University Park owners buy the right keypad online, wire it in, and then spend a weekend fighting the BFT programming sequence. BFT boards are picky about which input the keypad talks to. If you’d rather not spend your Saturday with a manual and a blinking LED, call us at (936) 296-2568 and we’ll handle it. Hand me your number and I’ll call you back – same day, every time.
